Will Robert’s ‘groove laden tunes with powerfully melodic vocals and dynamic guitar work’*(*Drummer Magazine UK) are the fruits of over 10 years’ writing, recording and performing experience. His craft for strong song writing has been honed through busking around the UK, and playing venues up and down the country as the frontman in various bands as well as a solo performer.
Growing up in the surf sub culture of Pembrokeshire on the South Wales coastline, Will picked up his Mum’s guitar at the tender age of 12 and started to play. Whilst listening to artists ranging from Led Zeppelin and AC/DC to Bob Dylan and Neil Young, Will saw something in the guitar that he couldn’t find in the other instruments around his family home and managed to shake off his parent’s desire for him to learn the piano. ‘Although I do wish I could play more piano now though!’
Moving to Cambridge in 2001 to study Audio and Music Technology, Will began recording and producing his music. He developed his studio engineering skills which have allowed him to take control in the production process of recording.
Over the years he developed his own brand of infectious, guitar focussed acoustic music. Experimenting with open tunings, unusual guitar techniques and percussive elements, Will creates an exciting dynamic connecting melody and rhythm through the body of his acoustic guitars.
2012 was an exciting year, performing a live session on Cambridge 105 FM in January, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire in March, and completing his debut EP ‘Line Of Sight’ which was released in June. Will was also one of 200 artists selected nationally to attend the BBC Introducing Master class held at Abbey Road and Maida Vale Studios London at the end of January. Look out for gig dates in 2013 around London and Cambridge as well as further afield plus the release of Will’s second EP ‘Mosaic’…
With a spellbinding mastery of the guitar, Will Robert is truly something special to behold. With soulful folk tones, his vocal straddles beautiful melodies that will ring in the ears for days to come. We will refrain from comparing him to anyone and ask you to judge for yourself….we are sure you will find it as glorious as we do.
